A roofing legacy, handed down in two languages

When his dad handed him the roofing company, Josh was terrified of everything he'd never been taught. Except his dad had put decades of the business into ManuFind — in Spanish — and Josh found he could answer any question, in either language.

Josh's dad built a roofing company from nothing into something that fed families — his own, and the crew's. He speaks Spanish. The crew speaks Spanish. The estimates, the invoices, the supplier conversations, the notes scribbled after a walk-through — the business runs in Spanish, even as it puts roofs over customers of every background. It took decades of early mornings to build, and now Josh's dad is getting older.

It's time to hand his son the reins.

Josh grew up on those roofs. He knows the work. He's even CC'd on all the client threads. But knowing the work isn't the same as running the business, and nobody had sat Josh down for the part that doesn't happen on a ladder.

The things nobody trained him for

Unorganized business structures, tax records and what gets written off. The insurance policies, and which payments are tied to which job. Roof specs. The invoices and quotes from a thousand past jobs. Material lists. The distributor list — who they call for tile, who they call for metal, and who gives them the better price. The list really does go on, and most of it lived in his dad's head and his dad's files.

Josh was genuinely nervous. You don't want to be the one who lets your parent's lifetime of work slip through your fingers.

But his dad saw it coming

Now close your eyes for a second. In this version of the story, Josh's dad had signed up for ManuFind a couple of years earlier and fed the whole company's document life into it week by week — the estimates, the policies, the invoices, the material lists, the distributor contacts, all of it.

So when Josh has a question, the answer is already at his fingertips — in Spanish, the language the business runs in. He asks instead of guessing. "¿Qué distribuidor usamos para las tejas en el trabajo de los Reyes?" "¿Cuánto cobramos por un techo de esta medida el año pasado?" "¿Dónde está la póliza de responsabilidad civil?" The answers come back in seconds — addressed to him properly, the way you'd speak to the new owner — each one grounded in the actual document, cited and openable right there. ManuFind isn't giving Josh tax advice or legal opinions; it's handing him his own company's records and helping him understand them.

He isn't intimidated anymore. He's prepared. More than anything, he has the knowledge — and that changes how it feels to carry his dad's name on the truck.

Then Josh saw something his dad hadn't

The business had always run in Spanish. However, when it came to translating it into proper quotes and documents in English, the results were far from perfect and clear. But Josh's customers come from everywhere — and that's where he spotted an opening the business never had the tools to take.

The same knowledge base that answers him in Spanish will answer in English too. Josh toggles the language settings in ManuFind to English, asks the same questions, and ManuFind responds in English — drawn from the very same decades of Spanish-language jobs. Now Josh can be prepared: when a new bid comes in, ManuLedger drafts the quote and the invoice in whichever language the customer reads, pulling the numbers from that same history. Josh reviews each one and sends it.

So now an English-speaking homeowner gets a clean, professional proposal in English, and a Spanish-speaking one gets the same style proposal in Spanish — both built from the same body of work, neither one retyped or rebuilt from scratch. The company didn't have to choose a language to communicate its answers. Josh's market just got bigger.

A legacy he was ready for

Josh took over the company prepared instead of afraid. The knowledge his dad spent a lifetime building didn't retire when his dad did — it stayed, searchable and ready, in the language it was built in. And then Josh did the thing his dad always wanted for him: he grew it. Into two languages, for every customer who needed it.

If your business carries knowledge that can't afford to walk out the door — in English or Spanish — ManuFind was built to keep it, and to put it to work. Request a demo.
